According to Yonhap News,
North Jeolla Province (Jeonbuk) recorded 138.3 million dollars in exports of agricultural and fishery products, up 22 percent from a year earlier during the January-September period.
The growth is attributable to the sharp increase of 77.6 percent and 30 percent in exports of forestry and fishery products, respectively.
Exports to Thailand and Japan, in particular, posted a year-on-year rise of 56.8 percent and 34.1 percent, respectively.
By country, exports to Japan came first with 54 million dollars, followed by exports to China worth 28.72 million dollars, Taiwan 15 million dollars and the U.S. 13.75 million dollars.
By export item, seaweed laver ranked first with 18.71 million dollars.
"Jeonbuk posted the highest growth rate in exports of agricultural and fishery products among local governments," said a Jeonbuk official. "The popularity of Korean culture in Southeast Asia seemed to contribute to the remarkable growth."
