U.S. Homemaker Wins Korean Food Competition

Rosa Gabriela Lee from the United States won the grand prize at a Korean food cooking competition, a part of the K-Food World Festival. Lee, a homemaker, is living with a Korean husband.

The food competition was hosted by North Jeolla Province, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) at the Creative Culinary Institute of Korea (CCIK) last week, and the second and third prize went to a Chinese and Uzbekistan chef, respectively.

Ten finalists from ten countries through preliminaries competed against each other in the final round.

The event offered preliminary rounds at ten overseas diplomatic missions, North Jeolla Province’s agricultural products and entertainment and experience programs to draw eyes from general public even before its opening.

The competition will also be aired during the Korean Thanksgiving holiday season, generating much promotional effect of North Jeolla Province’s agricultural products, Korean cuisine and CCIK.

A provincial official noted that the competition will be held every year under a unique theme, adding that the province plans to foster it to become an international event.

The K-Food World Festival held qualifying rounds at ten overseas diplomatic missions from Egypt, the United States, Mexico, Japan, China, Australia, France, England, Belgium and Uzbekistan to select ten finalists.
