Energy-Independent Village Established in Wanju

(WANJU = Yonhap News) The electric power system which produces and consumes power by new & renewable energy was built in the Village of Deok-am in Wanju, North Jeolla Province.

The village completed the installation of solar and geothermal-powered air-conditioning and heating facility and opened on the “Energy Independent Green Village Center” on Monday.

The system is designed to minimize the cost of maintenance and secure the maximum sunlight and terrestrial heat depending on the geographical features. It is a kind of local energy which produces the electrics for the village according to the regional conditions.

A total of KRW 600 million was invested to the project, and the center comprises energy promotion center, simulation room, guest house, book café, Korean dry sauna and restaurant.

The energy promotion center shows its visitors the production process of eco-friendly energies such as solar heat, solar heat, geothermal heat, wind power and water power.

Educational facilities and lecture rooms were also built for students who visit for field study.

Guest house, book café, Korean dry sauna and restaurant also provide convenient services to visitors.

In an attempt to expand the infrastructure for the local energy, Wanju-gun plans to invest a total of KRW 15 billion to establish the alternative energy center and construct “Sanlim Biomass Town” near Gosan recreational forest park to supply the highly efficient heating systems.

“Once the center is built, it will help the local residents generate employment opportunities and improve the level of income and exchange between the urban and the suburban area. Governor of Wanju Lim Jung-yup said.
