According to Yonhap News,

(NAMWON = Yonhap News) Namwon, Jeollabuk-do, will kick off its Namwon culture city development project.

The city, which was designated as a cultural city development district by the Ministry of Culture (MCST), Sports and Tourism, announced on January 21 that it will finish the project evaluation by the end of April and commence the construction.

The project aims to develop the brand image of the city and region by fully using the region’s cultural resources. For the next five years, it will mainly focus on encouraging its residents to actively participate in the development and operation of cultural programs.

The city plans to develop cultural and tourist attractions that offer various cultural experiences. The attractions include Korea traditional music village, Kim Byeong-Jong art gallery, pottery village and others.

Namwon expects the project will vitalize the local economy by offering high-quality performances, various attractions and experiences to the city’s artists, local residents and visitors from other regions.

MCST plans to continue its supports by providing consultation services and project assessments, and officially designate Namwon as a “culture city” after the local culture promotion act passes the National Assembly at the end of the year.
