(NAMWON=NEWSIS) Namwon City of Jeollabuk-do announced June 18 the opening of Agricultural Processing Plant, to process agricultural products, produce sample products and develop new products for commercialization.

The 545㎡ plant has processing equipment and facility needed to train farmers and produce sample products for commercialization. Last year, 9000kg of fruits were used to run 21 tests, and sample products of jam and juice were produced. For people interested in opening up their own businesses, four training sessions on marketing and obtaining food handling certificate were provided.

This year, the plant processed 4255kg of fruits for production. To create added value for local farmers, the plant developed ‘spicy strawberry jam’ and ‘sweet pepper apple jam’, both of which will be filed for patent application.

“We will continue to work hard to discover new source of income out of local agricultural produce, thereby helping our local farmers,” said a city official.
