North Jeolla Province Turns Saemangeum Seawall into Tourist Attraction

(JEONJU=NEWSIS) North Jeolla Province will promote creating the Saemangeum Seawall, the world’s largest seawall, into a tourist spot.

According to the province on December 20, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has approved the action plan to develop the Sinsido rest area to boost tourism in the Saemangeum region.

The project is to expand the facilities around the Saemangeum Seawall by adopting creative ideas of private companies to guarantee the convenience of tourists.

Saemangeum Co., Ltd. will invest KRW 67.2 billion in the project to establish the Sinsido rest area on 5.6 ㏊ of land.

The first step of the project will begin in March, 2015. A total of KRW 50.1 billion will be used to build rest areas, an observatory and accommodations that will be open to the public in the second half of 2016.

"With the approval of the action plan to develop the Sinsido rest area, we will be able to turn the Saemangeum Seawall into a tourist attraction," said a North Jeolla official.
