Gwangju Breaks Ground for Bioenergy R&D Center

(GWANGJU=NEWSIS) Gwangju announced that construction of the Gwangju Bioenergy R&D center of the Korea Institute of Energy Research begun on July 14, 2016.

The center, a local organization of a government-contributed research institute under the the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, will be constructed on a site of 23,150㎡ in the Gwangju Techno Park with completion slated in the second half of 2017.

A totoal of KRW 26.9 billion will be injected for the construction project, financed by the state funding of KRW 13.2 billion, city funding of KRW 11.5 billion and the KIER funding of KRW 2.2 billion.


"Core bioenergy and energy storage technologies developed by the KIER will be tested and executed through the center," said an official of Gwangju. "The center will play a pivotal role supporting R&D activities linked to local industries as well as leading industrialization of the related energy sector in Gwangju."
