According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju City will officially launch a project to be a leading city in water circulation from next year in the face of water quality degradation and climate change such as heatwave and heavy rainfall.

Water circulation is a system in which cloud formation, precipitation, spillage, evaporation, and penetration continue in a constant cycle.

Damage to the water cycle system causes environmental issues such as unexpected water pollution and weather changes.

As a solution to such problem, The Ministry of Environment accepted proposals for water circulation pilot projects, and Gwangju was selected as the winner.

Starting next year, Gwangju City will undertake water cycle management basic planning to draw up a master plan.

The plan will include a long-term vision of the water cycle policy and a step-by-step actions.

In addition, the city will publish a water circulation map to visualize water circulation status throughout the city, and set water cycle management targets, and designate water circulation management priority districts.

Once water circulation policy and system improvement direction are set, Gwangju will implement the water cycle circulation pilot project in Seo District.

The total project is projected to cost KRW 29.5 billion including national budget of KRW 20.7 billion. Starting from basic design in 2018, the project will be completed by 2020.

After the pilot implementation, the water circulation system improvement project will be extended throughout the city according to step-by-step execution plan.
