(GWANGJU=Newsis News) The Metropolitan City of Gwangju announced Jan. 31 it will provide subsidies this year on an unprecedented scale to supply 100 electric vehicles (EVs), 107 EV charging stations, and 50 electric bikes.
The EVs will be supplied, on a first-come-first-serve basis, to ordinary citizens residing in the Gwangju area, small and medium businesses, and distribution companies, through public offering, starting Jan. 31.
A total of 100 EVs will be supplied: 95 to private citizens, 5 to the public sector. The supply will comprise 6 types of EVs from 5 car makers: Kia's Ray and Soul, the Nissan Leaf, Renault Samsung's SM3, the Hyundai Ioniq, and the BMW i3.
A total of KRW 21mn will be subsidized per vehicle, KRW 14mn from the national budget and KRW the remaining KRW 7mn from the City. It is the greatest amount to be provided by a metropolitan city.
The City also plans to supply 107 slow charging stations for the convenience of EV users. Of these, 67 will be installed at private homes beginning in March by the Korea Environment Corporation on a first-come-first-serve basis, while the remaining 40 are planned for public use at facilities used by large numbers of people and multi-unit housing facilities.
