According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju City announced October 18 that it has completed administrative procedures for establishing an overseas office in Shanghai, China.

The city enacted an ordinance and enforcement regulations on the establishment and operation of overseas offices in February, and completed applying for establishing a corporate body in Shanghai the following month, and completed registration in May.

Gwangju's Shanghai Office will serve as a center for reinforcing the city's global competence by helping local companies enter Chinese markets, provide support for trade, attract investment and expand cooperation between the two countries.

A Gwangju source noted, "the new Shanghai office is all the more meaningful as it will open at a time of difficult between the two countries following the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system in Korea," adding, "the office is scheduled to open on the first day of December and will be operated by two Korean civil servants as well as three Chinese employees."
