(GWANGJU=Newsis News) Gwangju Metropolitan City plans to focus its efforts on nurturing five new growth industries of robots, smart electronics, artificial intelligence, biomedical parts and materials, and optical convergence technology.

For the high-added-value intelligent robot industry, the city opened a micro medical robot center in Chonnam National University's advanced industry campus, and plans to build a micro medical robot industry cluster in the urban advanced industrial complex in Nam-gu.

For the smart electric and electronics industry, the city has established a 5-year basic plan for and energy industry convergence complex, and plans to create a new energy industry industry-academia cooperation cluster.

The city will also nurture the local artificial intelligence technological convergence industry, and biomedical materials and parts industry, as well as push forward with a project for building a platform for core optical convergence technology.

By doing so, the city hopes to maximize its competitiveness in preparation for the fourth industrial revolution, and thereby create high-quality jobs and revitalize the local economy.
