(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju and the South Jeolla city of Muan will soon release a roadmap with Muan for an integrated private airport.
The initiative is gaining attention at a time when the two local governments have agreed to revitalize the Muan Airport, and the decision to have the Honam high-speed railway ptop by at the airport.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City and South Jeolla Province on January 10, Gwangju will soon commission the Gwangju Jeonnam Research Institute to study ways to relocate the city's private airports.
The purpose of the study is to create a roadmap, complete with methods, procedures, schedules, etc., for relocating Gwangju Airport's domestic flights to Muan Airport in Seouth Jeolla Province.
In other words, it is the first step taken together by Gwangju and South Jeolla for their private airport integration project.
When the study is complete, Gwangju plans to form a private-public consultative group with representatives of the two local governments and other interested parties to begin discussions on a full scale.
