(GWANGJU=Newsis News) A large number of export companies based in the Gwangju region are expecting the first half of 2018 will yield better results than the same period the previous year.

Such expectations seem to have been based on the efforts of local export companies to raise their competitiveness, and the positive outlook for the global economic recovery.

According to a survey on 137 local exporters released by the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Gwangju Main Customs on January 30, 56.2 percent (77 companies) of those expected exports to rise during the first half of this year, while only 16.8 percent expected conditions to get worse.

China (27.0%) was the main export destination for the largest number of the companies surveyed, followed by Southeast Asia (26.3%), Japan (13.9%), United States (11.7%), and the European Union (8.8%).

The biggest reason they expected conditions to improve was 'securing new orders or client companies' (51.7%), followed by 'economic recovery of the export destinations' (19.5%), and improvement of non-price competitiveness such as through newly released products' (13.6%).
