According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) The Gwangju Metropolitan Government announced its plan to expand on the Innovative City Research and Planning Task Force, which the city set up for joint projects between the Gwangju and Gwangju-Jeonnam Innovation City.

The task force consists of four subcommittees on culture, energy, ICT convergence, and bio-agriculture), respectively, whose efforts are coordinated by the Operating Committee. Overall, the TF is tasked with developing projects to support the Innovation City.

It has been credited with developing various ways to improve the living conditions of the city, as well as its administrative policies and practices.

To expand the task force’s roles even further, the Gwangju Metropolitan Government decided to limit the number of TF members to 15 members with extensive knowledge and experience, who will now consist of former members of public institutions, as well as professors and researchers.

In addition, each subcommittee will convene for regular meetings every two months and hold quarterly briefings to review their outcomes.

The city government also launched a plan to develop joint projects to use the Innovation City as an opportunity to revitalize the local economy.

The plan will go hand-in-hand with the establishment of a cooperation system under which the academia, the industry, research centers, and the government will work together to train local talents and engage in other activities for the area’s growth.

Mr. Kim Byeong-Gyu, Head of Gwangju’s Innovation City Cooperation Group, said on March 11 that “[w]e [they] will work together with other administrative and public organizations to ensure that the support projects for the Innovation City can contribute to the growth of Gwangju and other areas.”
