A new road will connect the Gwangju Industrial Complex, a special zone dedicated to R&D efforts, and the Bitgoeul-ro Road.

The Gwangju Metropolitan Government held a kickoff ceremony for the new road in Daechon-dong, Gwangju on March 21st. The event was attended by Gwangju Mayor, Jang-Hyun Yoon, National Assembly Member, Kyoung-Hwan Choi, Gwangju City Council Chairperson, Eun-Bang Lee, and representatives from the resident companies.

This 6-lane road with a total extension of 750 meters connects the Yongdu Intersection on the Bitgoeul-ro Road with the Industrial Complex on the other side of the Yeongsan River. The construction is slated to be completed by the end of 2020. The total budget is KRW 44 billion, of which KRW 22 billion will be financed from the national treasury.

The road will be built in an area previously infamous for traffic congestion and with a high risk of accident due to the high traffic volume and relatively narrow roads and bridges. The new connecting road is expected to alleviate many of these difficulties.

A Gwangju City official said, “If the project improves the accessibility of the special zone, it will help us improve the competitiveness of the Industrial Complex.”
