Gwangju City revealed on April 11 that parks and forests will make up 90% percent of Gwangju's Private Park Special Project Phase 2.

According to the city, 90% of the 7.51 million meter squared private park spread across 6 different regions will be composed of parks and forests.

This is much higher than the average 72% that make up 18 other industrial complexes including Incheon, Daejeon and Gyeonggi.

Gwangju City established a private-public governance make of citizens, experts, congress and other government officials and held 17 meetings to discuss the matter.

In accordance with the current law, private businesses are developing 30% of the park sites turning the remaining 70% into parks and forests. However, Gwangju city is considering more conservative development options.

This entails the project lead would purchase the entire plot of land and conserve a portion of the private park in its original, natural form. This will reduce the cost of constructing parks and minimize the area of non-park facilities.
