Gwangju to Build VR and AR Production Support Center

According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) On May 20, Gwangju City announced it was selected for the Regional VR and AR Production Support Center project by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

In order to foster the VR and AR industry, Gwangju City set up a planning committee consisting of the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, Gwangju Technopark 3D Utilization Support Center and the South Korea Virtual Reality Cooperative.

For this project, Gwangju City will receive KRW 1.95 billion this year and a total of KRW 2.6 billion over 2 years in national funding.

The project has a total budget of KRW 4.5 billion, including the national funding, to build a VR and AR production support center within Gwangju Station.

Detailed tasks include building the business center and content production support test bed, development and marketing support and fostering a workforce of professionals.

The city plans to support 7 content companies and 4 startups this year.

Gwangju City will also provide a pavilion for the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency for member companies wanting to participate in international exhibitions. The city will also conduct joint-marketing to secure an outlet for the production content.

The Gwangju Technopark 3D Utilization Support Center will provide companies with the latest VR and AR facilities and equipment as well as provide customized training for each project to foster professionals.
