Gwangju and Jeonnam's April Trade Surplus Up 22% YoY

Gwangju and Jeonnam provinces recorded a trade surplus of USD 1.236 billion in April, up 22% YoY.

According to Gwangju Main Customs' Gwangju and Jeonnam Regional Trade Trend Report for April released on May 23, the region's exports totaled USD 4.527 million, a 30.7% increase YoY, and imports increased 34.2% YoY for a total of USD 3.291 billion.

On a cumulative yearly bases, the region's imports increased 15.5% and exports increased 12.9%, resulting in a USD 4.18 billion trade surplus.

By product, the exports of petroleum (203.4%), steel (33.9%) and priming materials (22.6%) increased. Import products such as consumer electronics (170.0%), crude oil (80.4%) and semiconductors (15.4%) increased as well.

Gwangju's regional exports in April decreased 7.9% YoY to total USD 1.24 billion, while imports increased 13.3% Y.Y and totaled USD 520 million. The region's trade surplus totaled USD 720 million.

For the same period, Jeonnam's regional exports increased to USD 3.323 billion, up 54% YoY and imports increased to USD 2.789 billion, up 38.9% YoY. The region's trade surplus totaled USD 534 million.
