(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju is establishing a comprehensive plan to foster senior friendly industry.

On August 16, the City held a meeting marking the launch of senior friendly business fostering plan at the Gwangju Senior Friendly Center, attended by 20 participants from businesses and academia.

The Senior Friendly Industry Development Plan was based on the municipal ordinance of Gwangju on Senior Friendly Industry Development and Support, prepared last year by the City to support and foster the industry systematically.

The Plan will provide the policy direction and goal by analyzing the status of domestic and international senior friendly industry.

Among nine sectors of the industry, the plan will select Gwangju's specialized sectors which will sit in the center of the plan.

The comprehensive plan will include senior friendly industry fostering road map aligned with the major industry of the region, policy proposal, financing plans, and institutional improvement.

Gwangju is expecting that this plan would help build a new senior friendly business market in the region.

In addition, in the next half of the year, it will complete the establishment of the plan to prepare legislations to support it, and attract participation of the firms related to the industry.

"We will establish a concrete plan to foster senior friendly industry that will form a concensus on the market and promote development of the industry," said Lee Chi-sun, Director of Future Industry Policy Department.
