Gwangju Invites Teaching Staff from Indonesia

Gwangju City and the Gwangju Convention & Visitors Bureau are attracting educational tourists from Southeast Asia by hosting a Fam Tour for Indonesian teachers and staff to visit tourist sites and education facilities.

The Fam Tour invited a group of 25 people including 16 high school principals and university executive directors from Surabaya, Indonesia. From September 2 to 4, the group is to visit education facilities such as Suwan Middle School and Chonnam National University, and key tourist sites such as Wolbongseowon Confucian Academy, Yangrim-dong Modern History and Culture Village and Chungjang-ro Street.

On the first day of the tour, they started out with experiencing the culture of Gwangju at Yangrim History and Culture Village, and on the second day, they had the class inspection and exchanges with teaching staff of Suwan Middle School. On the last day, they will visit Kia Motor Gwangju Plant and then take the scholar experience class in Wolbongseowon.

The City has been promoting various kinds of marketing activities, such as attending overseas tourism exhibitions and hosting presentation sessions to enter the Southeast Asian market as part of the measures to China's ban on group tours to Korea. The Fam Tour was on of the outcome of Gwangju's tourism presentation in Indonesia.

"I hope the Fam Tour will lead to attracting more tourists from Southeast Asia," said Kim Yong-seung, Director of Tourism Promotion Department of the City, adding "We will continue the marketing activities for China and Southeast Asia to diversify the tourists visiting Gwangju."
