According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Public Wi-Fi has been installed in major sightseeing spots in Gwangju, allowing anyone to freely use gigabyte Wi-Fi.

Gwangju City signed a business agreement with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Korea Tourism Organization) and the telecommunications agency KT last September. The city announced on December 20 that it had invested a total of KRW 654 million and finished providing free public Wi-Fi in major tour sites.

The free public Wi-Fi zone has been established at 34 sites including Yanglim-dong Modern History and Culture Village, the National Asian Cultural Complex, and Jeungsim and Wonhyo Temple at Mount Mudeung.

As a result, anyone in the Wi-Fi zone of the city's major sightseeing spots will be able to access the "KOREA Free SSID" and use the Internet free of charge, without having to go through another authentication process.

The city expects the Wi-Fi zone to contribute to enhancing tourist convenience, promoting tourism in Gwangju, and supporting the success of the 2019 Gwangju World Swimming Championship.

In Gwangju, there are 577 free public Wi-Fi services including tour sites and traditional markets.

The city plans to install free public Wi-Fi in all city buses (a total of 1,000 buses) by next year.

An official of Gwangju city said, "We will continue to expand the free public Wi-Fi zone by securing government fund."
