According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju city held a ceremony to launch a "Gwangju Medical Industry Development Council" at Gwangju City Hall on January 15.

The council consists of twenty-three entities involved in the medical industry, including hospitals, universities, and companies in Gwangju.

The council plans to suggest national projects and policies for development of the medical industry, and seek measures to identify and support enterprise foundation.

The city puts great emphasis on fostering the medical industry, such as establishment of support center for dental material & product technologies, a cooperative project with the Korean Brain Research Institute, and a medical micro robot project.

The city plans to grow the medical industry as the region's growth engine by expanding its scope to services like bio cosmetics, 3D printing, dementia care, and medical tourism.

A city official said "The council will act as a driver for the foundation and growth of innovative enterprises," adding that "we will provide support in building a healthcare ecosystem that leads to job creation".
