As LG electronics has been fostering research and development capability with establishing AI research centers in Seoul, US, and Canada, it has shown interest in utilizing the AI industrial complex infrastructure.

A city official said "we just confirmed a willingness to participate in the project planning stage," adding that "once a detailed project plan is worked out, we will seek investment from various companies including LG electronics".

AI Science and Technology Complex is a KRW 1 trillion project to build a foundation for AI, and a complex to foster talent, conduct research and development, and facilitate enterprise creation in Gwangju Cheomdan district 3 in which a large-scale academic-industry-research cluster is located by 2027.

This project was exempted from a preliminary feasibility study last month, and will proceed in earnest from next year.
