Gwangju city is to stand at the forefront of the fourth industrial revolution

According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju city is leading the fourth industrial revolution with attracting institutions and companies involved in future industries.

This year, the city signed an investment agreement with Hyundai Motors on automobile factory, attracted an eco-friendly vehicle parts certification center, was exempted from pre-feasibility study on AI-centered industrial cluster, goes ahead with a plan to realize the construction of hydrogen fuel cell power plant, signed MOU with LG Electronics on growing the air-prufying industry, and witnessed the construction of Korea's first hydrogen fusion energy center.

Gwangju city and Korea Automotive Technology Institute(KATECH) held the opening ceremony of Korea's first hydrogen fusion energy demonstration center at KATECH's Gwangju center on March 18.

The center, operated by KATECH, will carry out "Technology development and demonstration of hydrogen-fueled and electric vehicles fusion station" by September 2021.

Gwangju city expects the operation of Hydrogen Fusion Energy Demonstration Center will bring forward the creation of the hub city of hydrogen industry.

Also, the difficulties domestic companies faced in demonstration of prototype for commercialization due to expensive facilities, and issues with objectivity and reliability.

Gwangju city also signed MOU with LG Electronics to foster the environment-friendly air industry at Korea Electronics Technology Institute on March 18.

According to MOU, the city and LG will identify joint R&D projects in such areas as development of sensors and filters to improve air quality of multi-use facilities such as shools and hospitals.

The establishment of Gwangju branch of Korea Electro technology Research Institute (KERI) is going forward with an aim to open in the first half of next year.

With KRW 32 billion investment, the Gwangju branch is to be established with research center, lab, and facilities for energy storage and solar photo-voltaic performance test, creating the infrastructure for next-generation research and test.

Gwangju mayor said, "Gwangju is positioning itself as a leader in the fourth industrial revolution, in eco-friendly vehicle industry, hydrogen energy industry, and AI industry".
