Gwangju city bears fruits of its efforts to build "exemplary city in safety"

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju city has solidified its position as an exemplary city in disaster safety, having been selected as "excellent" in disaster safety evaluation category.

On July 10, Gwangju city announced that is was evaluated as excellent by the central government on four areas of disaster safety.

The areas Gwangju city rated excellent are disaster management, national safety review, safety Korea drilling, and emergency evacuation training.

The city secured KRW 36.7 billion of special disaster safety local share tax, adding a momentum to realize a safe city.

It has raised citizens' awareness of safety and created social atmosphere by running a "safety culture 3,3,3 campaign" in which all citizens from home, school, and office participate and carry out.

A "safety culture 3,3,3, campaign" is to internalize "training, inspection, and report" of safety at "home, school, and office," while administrative organizations "support, control, and promote".

The city established a data base (DB) of safety checkup results on multi-use facilities during national holidays and construction sites, and identified vulnerabilities by place and item through big data analysis.

It also conducted a safety accident warning system by month, season, and type to raise citizens' awareness of safety.

It was also first in the country to establish a 5G-based smart disaster management platform, innovating into a disaster safety management system focused on site.

A city official said, "We will pursue to set Gwangju as the safest in the country, and build a social safety net by improving safety welfare policy."
