According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju is set to create a large-scale industrial complex to foster future growth-driving industries.

On August 8, Gwangju City announced that it held a conference launching "Feasibility study and basic plan establishment outsourcing" at Gwangju City Council on July 25.

At the conference, they checked on the status of 13 industrial complexes, which are maturated and old, discussing the need to create new ones.

Participants agreed on the need to create a future-oriented industrial complex to attract companies and cultivate future growth-engine industries, hammering out basic direction.

As existing ones have difficulties in securing infrastructure for eco-friendly automobiles, they plan to set up a new industrial complex equipped with infrastructure for eco-friendly vehicles.

The city will make companies in hydrogen, electrics, and AI to move in to establish an industrial complex befitting the era of the fourth industry.

The city will develop Sinryong-district, designated as R&D special district, and another to make space for companies to attract in the energy valley, KEPCP and Gwangju Jeonnam Innovation New City.

The site to which Kumho Tire factory will be relocated, which is under discussion, will be included in the plan.

The city plans to create three or more industrial complexes.

It will decide on the direction on how to develop the industrial complexes in August, and set up a new team in charge, hoding meetings of experts and advisers frequently.

By the end of this year, they will select candidates for site, conduct survey of demand, and lay out basic proposal.

A Gwangju city official said, "We plan to set up a plan for creation of new industrial complexes with long-term view of more than two decades."

In Gwangju, there are 8 completed industrial complexes including Hanam Industrial Complex, four under development including Bitgreen Industrial Complex, and one underoing process (High-Tech 3 District).

The land area of 13 industrial complexes is about 30.21 sq. meters. They are so maturated that cannot afford to have new factories to move in, while aged 20 years or more.
