Along with Saemangeum located in North Jeolla Province, Gwangju and South Jeolla Province were pointed out as Korea’s first energy cluster, which will be built on 18.92 square kilometer site covering three main districts (that are responsible for) smart grid / energy efficiency / wind power. Gwangju city said the 18th National Energy Committee finally approved a plan to establish a national energy cluster in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province on Nov. 6.

The decision appears to enable local authroties and institutions to select capable energy businesses and fully support in R&D, procurement and commercialization. They also can benefit from sufficient (both personnel and material available) resources.

By making full use of quality infrastructure, companies at the smart grid district will form interconnected system for supply, consumption and sale. They also develop technologies for service distribution OS and smart grid hardware.

The district designed to develop energy efficiency will form data-base AI platform along with the next generation ESS ecosystem.

Businesses who wish to move into the wind power district run projects to integrate associated industries including hydrogen, power transmission and energy storage technologies, while building up offshore wind power cluster to produce 8.2GW energy near Shinan.
