According to Yonhap News,

The Gwangju Model, a major national initiative to create synergy between labor and management, announced its inauguration of the automobile manufacturing plant, which will take a role of testing ground for local job creation.

The city of Gwangju said on Dec. 25 that the ground breaking ceremony was held on Dec. 26 at the nearest national industrial cluster attended by private- public entities involved: Ministry of Trade and Industry, Gwangju Global Motors, the city of Gwangju, civil croups and shareholders.

The new production line will be settled on a 85,900 square meter site. Hyundai Engineering in charge of the masterplan is expected to complete the construction process by the end of April, 2021. 60 percent of the job is reported to go to local subcontractors to work with. Once the construction is over, the facility appears to produce 100,000 units per year, newly hiring a thousand workers in the assembly line and to release compact sport-utility vehicles (SUV) starting from the second half of 2021.
