The city of Gwangju plans to establish a research center, studying and setting up a global standard which applies to industrial norms in AI business worldwide. Gwangju city signed a memorandum of understanding on Feb. 19 with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) for joint research work to embrace a new ecosystem for artificial intelligence technology.

The MOU states the details of how to push on the plan- to establish IEEE AI research center, an international metrology institute and academy center in Gwangju, to run an international conference and to provide mentoring & consulting service for technical, administrative support. The metrology institute will serve as an official body which sets up globally acceptable industrial standards and technological measurement, while conducting in-depth studying over how to minimize the risks stemming from hyper-connected intelligent society. Once the project comes to an end successfully, the city is predicted to become highly influential in global scale AI projects.
