Gwangju city formed a startup platform to help artificial intelligence in healthcare

A mega-platform to promote healthcare business comes into the city of Gwangju to be positioned as the next generation AI hub in Korea. The city, which selected healthcare as one of the top industrial priorities, has embarked on the platform formation project aimed to support AI healthcare startups, bringing valuable medical information into commercially viable products and services.

The first phase of the project is orchestrated by multiple private-public entities -the city government, Chonnam National University Hospital and KIMIRo. A startup community center and a healthcare bigdata platform will be open at startup support center in Dongu and CNU, respectively. The city will become the main funder to build out the industry base, expected to cost as much as KRW 3.5 billion.
The second stage is the process to help the relevant industry reach full pace, with the national budget worth KRW 15 billion. The key actors of the project are anticipating bigger business opportunities, adding 1,500 new jobs, 60 startups and output valued over KRW 50 billion.
