According to Yonhap News,

A city-led project to form an industry cluster specified in emission control solutions, part of the government’s recently announced environment initiatives, the Green New Deal, appears to be pushed ahead starting from early next year in the city of Gwangju.

The local government announced on Dec 13 that the city is set to kickstart the project, securing KRW 14.6 billion budgets which will be funneled into land purchasing and construction costs from the environment ministry. The project mainly aims to promote industry agglomeration through which businesses involved are able to make the best use of resources and develop technologies to reduce industrial pollutant emission, blamed for the main source of fine dusts in the air.

With a KRW 45 billion worth of budget allocated, the Ministry of Environment is currently pushing ahead with the plan forming the cluster on a 3,000㎡ site near the Gwangju Bitgreen Industrial Complex by the end of 2022. The construction project is now underway on a set schedule to break ground in October next year right after the land purchasing process. Once the cluster is founded in the city district, it’s highly anticipated to add 2,807 new jobs, bringing production inducing effects valued at around KRW 398 billion.
