Gwangju to host 9 e-Sports events this year

Gwangju city announced on May 30 that it will hold 9 e-sports events including League of Legent, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), Kartrider, and Brawl Stats at Gwangju Esports Arena.

LCK Academy Series Championship will be held from June 12-13, followed by nationwide amateur e-Sports competitions in August-September.

Gwangju E-sports open competition, where all talented gamers from across the country, without regional restrictions, will be held three times in June, August, and November.

Competitions for local gamers, such as Gwangju PC Club Competition, Hong University Final Match, and Middle-High School e-Sports league will be held.

The preliminary rounds of competitions will be held online, while finals and the tournament will be held in the stadium with being broadcast online through Youtube, etc.

Gwangju City plans to promote details of the competitions, including how to participate, and the prize through its website and SNS.

The size of audience will be controlled in consideration of social distancing to comply with quarantine rules.

The City has been in consultation with management group of the leagues to attract various e-Sports professional leagues in Gwangju.

Kim Jun-young, head of the Gwangju City Culture, Tourism and Sports Office.said "We will continue to host various e-Sports-related events and experiences in Korea's largest Gwangju e-Sports Stadium to contribute to spread of e-Sports as a sound and healthy life sports."
