According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju-si announced on June 21 that it had been selected for a 'big data-based auto electric parts reliability technology advancement' project, commissioned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTEI).

Auto electrical parts are electrical/electronic/information/convenience apparatus, which are wide in range and type, including radar, sensor, driver assistance system, lane deviation warning, safety, and air conditioning.

The city plans to invest a combined 45 billion won - national budget of 29 billion won, local budget of 8 billion won, and private sector 8 billion won, to build a joint lab and equipment in Korea Automotive Technology Institute (Katech)'s headquarters in Gwangju.

It plans to analyze and process data on malfunction, error, service, and problems occurring in the process of development, production, and application of auto electrical parts.

It will also encourage both large businesses and local SMEs to participate in building a cooperative system, while encouraging local home appliance, photonics, and AI companies to take part in the project.

The city also plans to attract relevant companies to the region, in connection with a cluster of eco-friendly car parts and a parts certification center located in Bitgreen Industrial Complex.

This project is supervised by Katech's headquarters in Gwangju, and participated by Gwangju Institute of Green-Car Advancement, the Corrosion Science Society of Korea, and Chonnam National University, among others.
