Gwangju to build AI-public bug garages in high-tech R&D special zone by 2025

The eco-friendly bus garages will be set up in the high-tech district 3 of R&D Special Zone with investment of KRW 24 billion in total, including national funding of KRW 7.2 billion by 2025.

The high-tech district 3 of R&D Special Zone (3.61 million ㎡) ranges from Buk-gu, Gwangsan-gu, Jangseong-gun, a hub of major industries in Gwangju-Jeonnam, and eco-friendly R&D complex based on AI.

The city has been pushing for a project of establishing eco-friendly public bus garages to respond to an increasing demand for bus thanks to reinvigorated R&D Special zone. It has been selected as a national funding project in June this year, securing national funding.

The garbage will be 20,000㎡ in size equipped with repair shop, auto washer, hydrogen/electric charging stations, and AI-based one-stop system.

AI-based one-stop system is to process repair, fueling, and washing as one-stop service, improving working environment of bus drivers. In particular, it will build data about moving distance per fueling to improve fuel efficiency and driving habit.

In addition, it will big data regarding utilize repair history of each bus to make real-time diagnosis, among others.

Furthermore, it will build eco-friendly charging stations including 1 for hydrogen charging and 4 for electric charging, expanding foundation for green mobility.

An official said, "to match the reputation as AI-centered city, we will run public bus garages by applying AI technologies."
