Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung met with Wang Xun, head of China Southern Airlines' Korean branch, at Gwangju City Hall on August 22 and discussed ways to boost local tourism.

The two had discussion to revitalize a travel to Gwangju and use of Jeonnam Muan International Airport, including the addition of new airline routes, the launch of chartered flights and the recruitment of talent from local university's aviation departments

Wang said, "for the benefit of Chinese tourists, companies in Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Chinese international students, we hope a return flight to Muan Airport."

Kang said, "for the growth of Gwangju and Jeonnam, we have to develop Muan Airport into a gateway airport" adding that "we hope to cooperate with China Southern Airlines to have various events in culture, art, and medical tourism that will induce many people's visit."

China Southern Airlines, established in 1991, is one of the three major airlines in China, and the 3rd largest airline among 240 airlines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Asia's largest.
