(JEONNAM-GWANGJU = Yonhap News) — The trade balance for the Jeonnam and Gwangju region recorded a surplus of USD 830 million in July.

According to the Gwangju Regional Customs Office on August 18, exports from Jeonnam and Gwangju increased 19.5 percent year-on-year to USD 6.18 billion, while imports rose 44.1 percent to USD 5.35 billion.

Among major export items, petroleum products (up 41.0 percent year-on-year), transportation equipment (50.9 percent), chemical products (14.6 percent), and rubber tires and tubes (47.7 percent) increased, whereas steel products (-1.8 percent) and semiconductors (-31.1 percent) declined.

By major export destination, shipments to Southeast Asia (3.9 percent), the European Union (75.1 percent), and the United States (16.8 percent) grew, while those to China (-3.4 percent), Japan (-1.4 percent), and Latin America (-18.8 percent) dropped.

Among major import items, crude oil (65.5 percent), semiconductors (38.3 percent), iron ore (41.1 percent), coal (31.4 percent), and chemical products (83.4 percent) expanded, while petroleum products (-8.0 percent) decreased.

By major import origin, imports from the Middle East (39.6 percent), Southeast Asia (31.2 percent), the United States (43.5 percent), Australia (34.6 percent), China (59.3 percent), and Japan (114.9 percent) all saw increases.
