Jeonnam Gwangju Special City announced on the 20th that it hosted a "Korea-China Academic Forum," co-organized by the Gwangju Institute and the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences. This event marks the first Korea-China exchange hosted since the launch of the Integrated Special City, as well as a commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between the two cities.

Around 100 researchers and experts from both cities attended the forum to discuss the theme: "Integrated Development of AI-Based High-Tech Manufacturing and Modern Service Industries."

During the keynote presentation, Lee Seung-ha, a research fellow at the Gwangju Institute, proposed policy directions to break away from the low value-added structure of manufacturing, including shifting focus toward final products and industrial solutions, as well as creating initial markets through public-private collaboration.

Qin Jian, director of the Regional Development Institute at the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote presentation emphasizing that intelligent terminal products and the smartification of all stages—production, service, and supply chain—are key pathways driving the integration of manufacturing and service industries.

In the comprehensive panel discussion, participants broadly covered practical cooperation measures, such as joint demonstration projects between Jeonnam Gwangju and Guangzhou in autonomous mobility and smart ports, global joint-expansion models, and regulatory sandboxes.

The Guangzhou delegation is scheduled to inspect the Korea Institute of Medical Microrobotics and the Asian Culture Center before departing on the 21st.
