According to Yonhap News,
Gwangju City signed an agreement with Leipzig, Germany to cooperate in the economic and cultural sectors at Holiday Inn Gwangju Hotel on March 9th.
An official of Gwangju said “Gwangju is rapidly emerging as an optimal investment destination of domestic and foreign companies, and the city will take the agreement with Leipzig, where automobile factories of BMW and Porche are located, as an opportunity to enhance exchange with Germany and promote more investment.
Leipzig is about 182m southwest of Berlin, the capital of Germany, with the population of 510,000. The demonstration for democratization in East Germany started at the city, driving the unification of Germany.
Also, Leipzig is famous as a hometown of art where great musicians including Bach and Mendelssohn stayed, and advanced automobile, publishing, machinery, chemicals, and textile industries.
