According to Yonhap News,

Encouraged by the growing popularity of Korean pop culture in the world, Gwangju City is moving towards building a K-POP concert hall.

The city will held a seminar to discuss the plan on the establishment of K-POP concert hall at the city hall with researchers from Gwangju Development Research Institute.

The seminar is Gwangju's first-phase action to respond to a plan to build an arena-type K-POP concert hall announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) earlier this year.

The seminar will focus on reviewing the feasibility of the establishment in Gwangju and discussing major issues that could occur with the establishment and its future direction.

Go Jeong-min, professor of Hongik University, will make a presentation about the necessity of building the K-POP concert hall in local areas and Dr. Mun Chang-hyeong about the major issues and future direction of the establishment.

With the Korean wave, the spread of Korean culture around the world especially centering on Asia, many Korean singers recently hold large-scale concerts in the U.S., Latin America and Europe.

Considering that foreigners' visit to Korea for the purpose of watching K-POP stars' concerts are key to maintaining growth momentum of Korean wave, the MCST plans to build the K-POP concert hall.

"We expect that the seminar will be a starting point for Gwangju to develop into a landmark of Korean wave with the establishment of the concert hall," said a Gwangju official.
