According to Yonhap News,

Korea Photonics Technology Institute held a completion ceremony of a LED testing center in the high-tech science industrial complex in the early June.

The 2,400 square meter-center is equipped with 50 kinds of testing devices including test beds for indoor, household, emotional, industrial and transportation lights.

The center is the only institution to conduct test on the qualitative function of LED lights in an actual environment.

In particular, the first measurement facility in the world that can inspect the function of street lights in an actual environment draws attention.

The center, financed by 15.6 billion won of national and city budgets, will not only enhance Gwangju's status as a LED mecca all around the world but strengthen the credibility and competitiveness of its LED light products, Gwangju expects.

The ceremony brought together about 100 people including Gwangju Mayor Gang Un-tae, Director of Growth Engine Team of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy Kim Jae-hong, and Executive of Korea LED Industry Association Eun Hui-mun.

Even with existing lights becoming replaced with LED, the lack of thorough inspection on the life and quality of products has been served as a stumbling block to the development of the LED industry.

Gwangju plans to provide all possible supports by allowing the center to use actual environments including roads to conduct measurement and test.
