According to Yonhap News,

Chonnam National University Hospital held an opening ceremony for a brain science research center in its building today, in collaboration with the U.K. University of Bristol, a worldwide research university in neurology.

About 50 people including President of Chonnam National University Kim Yun-su, Director of Chonnam National University Hospital Song Eun-gyu and Chief of Department of Neurology at Bristol University Kei Cho participated in the ceremony.

President Kim and Director Song visited the University of Bristol last December to ink a memorandum of understanding to build the center.

Behind its aggressive efforts to build the center lies an ambitious goal to work together with world-renowned neuroscientists to develop various early diagnosis methods and technology and even new medicine, according to Chonnam National University Hospital.

Neuroscience is emerging as a new growth engine with major advanced countries including the U.S., EU and Japan intensively investing in the field, which has led to remarkable achievement in relevant sectors including neurology, psychology and psychiatry. However, diagnosis in an early stage of disease still needs improvement.

Director Song expressed high expectation on the center, saying that "I hope the research center would bring about excellent research results in development of diagnosis and treatment of brain-related diseases in partnership with the University of Bristol."
