According to Yonhap News,
Gwangju is highly likely to be selected to host the 2015 International Design Alliance (IDA) Congress.
Dilki de Silva, Secretary General of IDA, and Allison DaCosta, project manager of IDA, visited Gwangju in mid-December to inspect whether the city is capable of hosting the congress.
The two representatives visited exhibition halls and accommodation facilities including Kimdaejung Convention Center, Asian Culture Complex, Holiday Inn Hotel, Ramada Hotel and Shinyang Park Hotel.
They are reported to conclude that Gwangju has sufficient capability to accommodate participants of IDA.
"If chosen to host the IDA Congress, Gwangju will evolve into a global design city," said a city official.
The host city for the 2015 congress will be announced by the IDA secretariat in Montreal, Canada at the end of the next January.
