Gwangju and South Jeolla Province’s trade surplus reached USD 550 million, as exports in April stood at USD 4.69 billion, a four percent decrease year-on-year, and imports was USD 4.14 billion, a 10 percent drop, according to Gwangju Main Customs on Monday.

By the end of April, trade surplus totaled USD 2.4 billion with USD 19 billion exports and USD 16.6 billion imports this year.

This year exports from Gwangju improved by 19 percent year-on-year at USD 1.39 billion. Its import also grew by five percent at USD 420 million to reach trade surplus of USD 970 million.

This is backed by the jump in exports of semiconductors and transport facilities by 125 percent and 14 percent year-on-year respectively.

Export of South Jeolla Province decreased by 12 percent at USD 3.3 billion year-on-year and its import stood at USD 3.72 billion, a decline of 11 percent, resulting in trade deficit of 420 million.
