Gwangju and Kazan Sign a Cooperation Agreement

Gwangju city and Kazan, Russia, two host cities of the Universiade, signed a cooperation agreement yesterday.

Gwangju mayor Kang Un-tae, during his visit to Kazan, Russia as a representative of the host city of the next Universiade, signed a cooperation agreement with Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

According to the agreement, two cities will cooperate in the field of administration, culture, arts, education, economy and trade and facilitate private exchanges between cultural groups, companies and citizens.

The agreement is expected to help Gwangju hold a successful 2015 Summer Universiade as two cities will share their knowledge and experience and promote joint projects for sport exchanges for world peace.

Kazan is the sixth largest city in the Russian Federation with a population of 1.14 million. The city is located near the Volga River, and it is the center of Russia’s politics, economy, science, culture and sports.

Gwangju and Kazan have promoted cooperation projects.

A Gwangju official expected that the agreement will help Gwangju to become a global city, adding that it will serve as an opportunity to lay a foundation for the city to penetrate the community of independent nations based on cooperation between Korea and Russia.
