ICHCAP to Hold Meeting in Gwangju

Gwangju City and the International Information and Networking Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the Auspices of UNESCO (ICHCAP) will hold an international meeting under the theme of recollections and forecast for 10-year efforts to protect intangible cultural heritage.

The meeting is a part of the fifth Korea-China-Japan Cultural Ministers Meeting to look back on agreement implementations and efforts to protect the intangible cultural heritages over last ten years, at the mark of 10th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage signed in 2003.

In addition, the meeting will serve as an opportunity to discuss cooperative measures to protect intangible cultural heritage in the perspective of Asian Pacific countries. It is also expected to reinforce cooperation between the three countries.

About 250 officials from Asia-Pacific member countries, representatives from the UNESCO regional office, Korean and foreign scholars and experts are expected to attend.

ICHCAP is an international organization specialized in intangible cultural heritage and is taking a leadership role by supporting protection activities in 48 UNESCO member countries in Asia Pacific region.
