Photonics Korea 2013 to be Held Today

Gwangju City will hold the opening ceremony of the International Photonics Exhibition (Photonics Korea 2013) today with insiders of the photonics industries from Korea and overseas and foreign buyers.

Photonics Korea 2013, which is hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Gwangju City and organized by the Korea Association for Photonics Industry Development (KAPID), expects see about 200 Korean and foreign companies with 270 booths.

Under the theme of realization of next-generation photonics society, there will be exhibitions for next generation industries and side-events including an international technology conference.

Photonics companies from 27 countries will participate in the exhibition to display various convergence technologies in the fields of ICT, medical, shipbuilding, automobile and agricultural and biotechnology.

Zones with LED lights will be also set up so that visitors can experience a future society with photonics industry.

Juli Kunstler, a senior analyst from OVUM, will be invited to the conference to deliver a keynote address on current status on the optical communication market and its future direction.

Export consultation sessions with about 100 foreign buyers from 27 countries, including Japan, Germany, China and Southeast Asia, will also take place.

In prior to the opening ceremony, Gwangju will also sign an investment agreement of KRW 72 billion with 16 photonics and automotive part companies.

Executie Vice-Chariman of KAPID Cho Yong-jin noted that the exhibition will be an opportunity for visitors to see advanced technologies at once with advanced photonics product display, seminars and export consultation sessions, adding that he asks for support and cooperation from related agencies and citizens.
