The Design Korea 2013 is held at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju from yesterday to Sunday.

Gwangju City and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the opening ceremony yesterday afternoon. The event provides opportunities to see recent design trends home and abroad and global competitiveness of Korean design industry.

The Design Korea 2013 has six exhibition sections of the Theme Exhibition, World Best Design, Design Imagination, Mutual Cooperation, City of Gwangju and the Design Experience.

The Theme Exhibition, under the title of new change, power to the open the future, shows strengths and vision of Korean designs and the World Best Design exhibits 350 outstanding designs from 11 countries, including the United States, Japan and Finland.

Export consultation sessions, which will be held today and tomorrow, are also expected to draw 58 buyers from 36 companies of 12 countries to hold about 100 consultations with participating design companies.

Gwangju mayor Kang Un-tae noted that Gwangju is proud to hold the Design Korea 2013, adding that the event is expected to serve as an opportunity to take the Korean design industry to the next level.

The Asian Design Summit, a pre-event of the Design Korea 2013, with 14 representatives from eight countries, including China, Japan and India, was also held yesterday morning.
