According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU = Yonhap News) The city of Gwangju announced on January 12 that it nominated seven products of four solar LED lamp manufacturers as “Made in Gwangju” (MIG) products.

MIG is a co-brand created by Gwangju to support the local small and medium-sized enterprises to discover new domestic and overseas markets with the brand competitiveness.

Since December in 2012, 52 products of 12 companies are actively carrying out their marketing activities in both domestic and international markets under the “MIG’ brand.

The city began the development of solar LED lights in last August to meet the increasing demand of the LED lamp. The solar LED lamp is a high-efficient and low-cost product that supplements the shortcomings of the existing product such as large size and poor design due to its external battery and control panel.

“Relatively high price was the biggest obstacle for the city to commercialize the solar LED lamp, but we were able to establish the foundation for domestic and overseas expansion as our local companies began to produce the standardized solar LED lamp,” said Kang Woon-Tae, Mayor of Gwangju.
