The opening of 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade is only a year left and the U-Games Organizing Committee is busy building the stadiums and athletes' villages and recruiting volunteers.

The swimming pool, armed with cutting-edge facilities, is under 43% developed. The swimming stadium is under construction with building area of 11,992 m², floor area of 19,398 m² in the land of 50,000 m². The stadium has three floors above the ground and one floor below with the investment of KRW 62 billion. Considering its scale and state-of-the-art technology, the swimming stadium can stand comparison with any other swimming facilities in the world.

In the second floor and third floor, 3,290 seats will be built. In the swimming race pool on the ground level, 10 lanes will be prepared to reinforce the usability from the preliminary round by making each width of 26 meters.

It will be the first for Korea to have a swimming race pool that meets the international standard. It will also be first to install the multi-functional depth regulator that adjusts the depth while the water tank will be made of stainless steel. Overall, the pool boasts its advanced technology.

It is also being built with green technology including sunlight, solar heat, geothermal system, rainwater and heavy water. The stadium is being built as female-friendly and barrier-free building.

The swimming stadium will also be used for the 2019 World Swimming Championship for 15,000 spectators by adding another 11,710 seats.

The residents in Gwangju expect that the City will become the mecca of swimming by hosting two international competitions consecutively.
