According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) The City of Gwangju and the Gwangju Kimchi Brand Industrialization Project Group signed an export agreement with Taiwan’s Hanyoung International Inc. on July 30 to export 7 t (KRW 40 million) of Kimchi, according to the City on August 12. Gwangju has exported the first batch of Kimchi to Taiwan on August 14.

The Gwangju Kimchi that has been exported include cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi (cube radish kimchi) and chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi), which were popular among Taiwanese at the Taipei International Food Show in June.

The Gwangju Kimchi Brand Industrialization Project Group has exported 15 t (KRW 130 million) of Kimchi to Japan from last December to May of this year and is planning to export Kimchi to Japan later this year.

"We have executed overseas marketing activities to export kimchi to the Southeast Asian markets. We hope our export to Taiwan will bring tangible results in other countries as well including Hong Kong and Thailand. This will eventually help us entering the Chinese market in the future,” said a Gwangju City official.
